Inventory managment has always been an issue for me and I despise it in every game except for Warframe. For some reason this is the only game I’m playing at the moment that just has one big pot for all of the craftables and ‘stuff’.
Warframe does charge for arsenal unlocks, but to be fair, that’s a pittance in comparison to the sheer amount of different types of blueprints, crafting materials, pet growing materials, lootables, and other random junk a Tenno collects as we murder hobo their way through the universe.
So today I want to ask the following:
Why don’t we see too many other games taking on Warframe’s inventory model?
Why aren’t more games looking at ESO’s near bottomless crafting bag?
OK if you want you can check out the patch notes for 2.1 here. 2.1 is mostly bug and bonus fixing with a couple of coolness features here and there.
3 BIG items
Progress towns won’t lose buildings via server restart.
Geology and Nature kits are no longer required (that clears up some room in the pack).
And all crafting facilities are now universal.
Now the really big news is the PTS (Public Test Server). According to the news on the FE website the PTS is due to return this month. No time set yet.
It will however have the World Events and Faction Territory Control. Evidently Faction Territory Control will actually have a new zone all to it’s self.
The details for both the World Events and Faction Territory Control sound pretty wicked.
Successful World Events will reward PVE players after they fight off waves of whatever or some giant monster. It does look like it’ll be a different mechanic than Progress Towns so that should be interesting.
Faction Territory Control will actually let a faction take over a town and set up in a keep within that town. While at first they sound like your normal progress towns, they really aren’t. Each one of these areas are going to have 13 points to capture with 7 inside a keep the players can defend, with the other 6 standing out in the open making them harder to defend.
There’s a lot more to it, but until it’s live I’m not going to worry about the details. You can check out the screenies and more over at the Fallen Earth Dev Blog.
Until next time, I’m gonna go get lost in the wastes.
Figured I’d put up a little post on what I’m up to. I’m still spending most of my game time in Fallen Earth. That’s not going to change (even changed out for a year sub). Thing is I also picked up WoW again to run around with Moms. Yes I play World of Warcraft with my Mom. Running around Azeroth getting lost, getting her killed, and having a good time while doing it.
Her system can’t handle playing Fallen Earth (trust me I tried a few months ago out of desperation, no bueno). It can play WoW though.
They also have a pretty interesting promotion going right now where signing up for a year gives you an in game mount Diablo 3 themed, a copy of Diablo 3, AND BETA ACCESS! I’m such a sucker for beta access.
They’ve announced the Panderia expansion and so I figured, what the hell. I know I’m gonna buy it unless I’m totally broke so I might as well just be ready to dink around in it.
I mean hell, Moms and I were hiding out during the WoW zombie apocalypse before Wrath of the Lich King was released. We also watched as Azeroth was changed forever when Cataclysm hit.
Why would we miss out on rolling a couple of fat and sassy drunken masters (Pandarian Monks). No no… I don’t care what it’s really called, I will call mine drunken master. End of story. Because it’s effing hilarious.
Safe to say I’m signed up for a year of WoW.
The bastards finally found a way to get a full year sub out of me. *facepalms*
It’s not Fallen Earth though. I still love FE. Oh and I decided to sub up for a full year of Fallen Earth too. I couldn’t sub up for a year of WoW and not sub up for a year of Fallen Earth.
Yeah it’s pricy, but seriously, I don’t have a whole lot else going on right now. I might as well take advantage of the situation and game like a mad woman while I still can.
OH!!! I’ve finally hit 180 cooking crafting on Geistig. I’m not too worried about getting it up too much further at this point and I’ll probably go back and research it soon.
Geistig is by the way, is full crafter capable (which means her tradeskills can get up to 196, the current cap). Sadly though cooking is the highest tradeskill I have at the moment.
With the new system I need to spend a lot of time digging in trash (scavenging/harvesting/mining) to 1) have crap I can sell on the AH for some chips and 2) have enough crafting mats to continue leveling. Personally I love just wandering around FE digging in trash all on my lonesome.
I think now I need to focus on Weapons Crafting and research. There’s not really a weapons crafter in The Reavers and since there’s a lot of Melee folks in the clan it’d just be a good idea to have a researched Weapons Crafter.
After that I figure I can work on Armor crafting, maybe even construction, who knows.
I still have a lot of work to do on Geistig and looking forward to it.
I am stepping out of PvP though. True dedication to PvP just takes more time than I can allocate right now. Even though I’d love to be a hard core player, I gotta face it, I just don’t have the attention span for that lol.
I did leave KAOS. It’s not because I don’t love the clan, I still totally do and all the guys/gals in KAOS, end of story, no questions asked.
I was just starting to spend more time with The Reavers, and I really feel like they could use another crafter. That AND I miss getting into crazy RP situations on Geistig. The community just isn’t the same without her throwing monkey wrenches in EVERYONE’s plans.
It’s just how she rolls. You never know what to expect from Geistig.
That AND right now there’s a kid in The Reavers (Canni Belle) who’s stuck in Lifenet. She’s randomly popping around from one cloner to another (using the new Fast Travel system) haunting whoever manages to end up in the cloner at the time.
Safe to say this close to Halloween it’s pretty freakin’ epic.
Yes it’s nerdy and silly, but it’s also creative and fun. Well if you’re a person that likes a good story.
In World of Warcraft I’ll be on either Geistig the Unholy Death Knight (Uldam) or Geistig the Retribution Paladin (Rexxar). I know talk about a mix right?
In Fallen Earth, I’ll be on Geistig. There really is no description for this Geistig, so you’ll just have to roll with it.
On October 20th the FE team released a server side patch that, so far, has stabilized the server. For the last few days the game hasn’t totally crashed out. A lot of the low level areas are still pretty laggy with all of the new blood, but they’re not crashing. That’s a plus.
At this point I’m back on Geistig for a while trying to finish up her crafting, AP capping and so on. Good times right?
That and I want to get some higher end scavenging in to try to pick up some chips.
So if you’re hanging out in the wastelands and have any questions or just want someone to harass hit me up on Geistig. I’ll probably be digging in trash or raising hell somewhere.

Comments Off on Fallen Earth: Stable Server and Lots of Playtime
The rampant influx of new players is still clogging up the Fallen Earth servers. Sadly it’s a case of success killing a game. Boneclaw and Embry keep dying. Not surprising. Boneclaw is the most popular noob zone and once folks are done in either the crafting or support noob towns they pretty much get sent to Embry.
Guess what that means?
The login servers are also having issues and have been taken down again as well. Having so many new players creating accounts is probably clogging up the servers faster than a box full of hamburgers can clog your arteries.
I want to say this pisses me off. It should because I can’t get into a game I’m paying for.
Fortunately this week I’m sick enough that I can’t do too much other than dig in trash or annoy the usual RP suspects. That means I’m not bugging not being able to log in.
I’m actually kind of stoked. If all the noobs logging into the game stay on, pay for something, Fallen Earth might FINALLY get the props it needs to be a successful game.
Let’s just hope the servers and databases are able to handle the load.
Good news is that FE is back up for the time being. So far the servers seem stable with standard lag.
The team has posted info on the nature of the server issues on this thread.
It looks like some database issues coupled with some server issues has given G1 some sleepless night getting Fallen Earth up, running and stable. Here’s hoping this last patch will do the trick.
It’s been touchy for a couple of days but hey, these things happen. So far folks that have been subbed have received 24 hours of reimbursement. So that’s bonus. They are trying and it looks like they’ve been working hard.
Right now I’m kinda bummed about the game. It plays just fine. I love the Commander Aura, I love the Commander crafting kit, and I love the fact that crafting goes so much faster under the Commander package.
Sadly though I can’t even get into the game right now. That’s bumming me the crap out. I love Fallen Earth and right now it’s driving me nuts that I can’t get into the game.
This can’t be an easy transition for Gamers First. I mean after all Fallen Earth is built on a custom game engine. It’s an MMO built from the ground up which is why it’s so unique.
Sadly I find myself once again feeling like Codex from The Guild. I love my game, but right now there’s not a whole lot I can do to help it, well besides wait for the servers to come back up.
Tiggs the Community manager has posted over in the G1 forums explaining what’s going on. It’s really consistent with what I’d seen in game over the last few days.

Comments Off on Fallen Earth: Server Issues
So yep we are on Day 1 of Fallen Earth Free to Play. Sadly we’re all still waiting for the servers to go live.
Well as one blogger put it, when you can’t play, blog.
Hey don’t look at me like that, I’m not the only one doing it. The Fallen Earth F2P Dev bloggie also posted a little somethin’ somethin’ earlier today.
On reading the F2P Dev blog there were a couple big parts that stuck out for me. They involved fasteners and bandages. I know, kinda petty considering all the goodies I’m gonna get for having stuck out the change. Goodies are nice but those only go so far. Running out of bandages or not being able to craft because I’m “missing component(s)” really, really, blows.
Here’s the skinny.
Bandages will require less cotton to make and will be found on vendors again. They evidently didn’t mean to take them off the first time. Secret is that they didn’t but there were only like one or two vendors in the game that still had them. I’m not tellin’ which ones, cause I’m mean like that heh.
Fasteners will remain on vendors, which is totally bueno. I’ll still be able to pick up screws when I need them without scouring the countryside hoping that vehicles will drop something other than scrap effing rubber. This makes me a very happy creep. Next up, recipes will need fewer fasteners. Now that’s sweet. I mean it took a butt load of fasteners to craft ballistics items and vehicles. That makes me look forward to getting back into the dune buggy business. Ok that and my baby Reaver is gonna need an interceptor. She’s a hottie she deserves a sweet ride.
Now on to the goodies.
So for folks like me that purchased FE in the whenever, we get a permanent discount on the COMMANDER sub package. That means we get the sweet aura, quicker crafting, xp gain, DT gain, and faction gain. Since my gals can use all the xp and faction I can get on them, I’m going to be looking pretty critically at this one. The discount is about $10 (from $29.99 to $19.99). Saving $10 a month is fine by me. I’m totally down with that.
Thing is though I’m gonna try it out the first month before perma-subbing for it. I want to know if it’s worth the extra ‘chips’.
On top of the 3 pets and 3 vanity items we’ve already received, folks that have been subbed up from August through October will have three wardrobe slots unlocked. What the hell are wardrobe slots? Well they’re slots you can use to cover up the ugly ass armor you have to wear to survive in the wastelands.
That’ll be kinda nice for my little Reaver since I’ve been enjoying rocking the Greaser Jacket, a cowboy hat and a skirt. These items are CRAP for stats but like I said, she’s a little hotty so I go with it. That and she’s range, if things are getting close enough to get damage on her, I’m doing it wrong.
In the F2P Dev Blog Linus (Joseph) also went over the reasoning behind node randomization and the other economy changes. Honestly I like what he had to say, it made sense.
Before you say anything, I am NOT SPONSORED BY ANYONE. Just sayin. I shell out the cash for this site and all the words I put here are mine. Yeah I tend to be more upbeat and less picky about stuff, but that’s cause I focus all my bitchy rage in places where it belongs. PvP zones.
So that being said, the reasoning behind the changes is essentially player interaction. They’re hoping to force players to actually trade with one another. Pretty sure this was the reasoning behind the changes to the combat system as well.
It forces people to work together as a team.
I mean in the wastelands, this kind of makes sense because people that group together are gonna have a better shot at things. Not all of us can be Mad Max no matter how much we want to do the lone wolf thing.
What this is gonna do is force people to almost specialize in how they do things. Personally I enjoy just roaming around digging in trash and exploring the game. Now I can sell those mats or trade them to someone who’s got the patience to craft goodies. I like goodies.
The only downside I see is that it’s gonna be a bit of a burden on PvP’rs since it’s gonna mean that they will need a serious support system. Otherwise they will be spending less time in PvP and more time digging in trash to make the stuff they need.
If they’re smart they’ll just scavenge like crazy in PvP zones, sell off the goodies, then buy whatever crap they need to keep up their habbit. Yeah it’s easy to see PvP as an addiction heh.
So, that’s my take on what was found in the Fallen Earth F2P blog. You want to see the details, maybe give them some input, check it out for yourself here.
Until next time I’ll probably be out scouring the wastelands leveling up my Reaver (Kleineubel) and diggin’ in trash to fill up her new dune buggy (thanks Void Blade).
Well today Patch 2.0 lands and Fallen Earth goes Free to Play. Veteran players can expect in game mail of the Chopper I posted about yesterday. Keep in mind it’s one per account so guess what? Choose the toon that gets it carefully.
The FE website says the game will be down at 9am 10-12 and will be down for 4-5 hours. After that patch 2.0 will be live.
The patch notes do give a list of what items will be common, uncommon and rare. The notes also list which items will be found on vendors. Bandages will also be back on vendors. So this should end the bandage shortage and fastener scare from patch 1.9.3.
All players currently subbed will get a temporary boost to the Commander Premium sub status until the term expires. After that it’s up to us to re-sub at Commander or suck it up and take Wastelander status.
