Sabotage Beroya Valin and Geistig - Noks Securty

So tonight I actually got to roll as security for the ever popular “Fight Club” conducted by Mr Hateful and the Outlanders. It’s a really fun bare knuckle boxing event held every few weeks in Fallen Earth.

Contenders fight within their level bracket for fun and prizes. It’s like Blood Sports but with a chance to get an interceptor.

GM Shento also attended and gave out full re-spec injectors to the winners. Pretty friggin’ cool if you ask me.

KAOS wasn’t around to roll security for the event so the Dreadnoks stepped up. Tonight it was Sabotage, Beroya Valin and myself on Geistig. We pretty much have security at these events to take out anyone who wants to roll in and farm for Death Toll at what’s supposed to be a fun and friendly event.

It’s sad we have to do this, but hell this is the wastelands. And let’s face it, there’s douches in every game.

Fall of the Legends in New Flag

After “Fight Club” I logged over to my toon Sonja Blackheart. She’s my up and coming Enforcer Rifle Support. She’s also a Badger in the Fall of the Legends.

Seems like thanks to some time spent in New Gallows by myself and Haust Valin, we managed to help get Fall of the Legends on KoS (Kill on Sight) with a Traveler clan called The Browncoats.

Word is that The Browncoats are another RP clan. They had two members of their clan in New Gallows at the same time Haust and I were grinding faction.

Unfortunately the Browncoats members thought it’d be a gas to snipe at the Enforcer camp while Haust and I were trying to build it up. There were some other folks there too an Enforcer and two Lightbearers from the 97th Regiment. Not a clan I know anything about. They were getting hammered pretty hard by the Traveler snipers.

Haust and I took out out the snipers. The snipers called for help. I got killed, but Haust took them out too. So then things escallated further when we called in help and some level 30’s and one 50 arrived. Thing is that The Browncoats called in 30’s and 50’s as well.

Haust Valin and my rifle toter Sonja Blackheart killed the level 50 from The Browncoats. Haust also went on to take out a level 50 Vista sniper farming Death Toll in New Gallows.

The Browncoats are displeased that a Fall of the Legends 50 managed to get one hit in on a low level member of their clan. They of course let everyone know all about it in Traveler chat.

Not sure if they let everyone know that they also had a 50 out there and that a 30’s ish member also arrived. Why the let that info slide? Could it be because 2 players with level 22 and 20 toons smoked a level 50 Browncoat?

Considering the fact that my “main” is a Traveler, the whole thing makes me ill. Guess we were supposed to just let those guys kill us and not fight back or call for back up. We probably didn’t need to call for back up really, but it’s fun that the Fall of the Legends are a tight enough group that they’re willing to roll out to help their members.

The Browncoats issued a KoS on any flagged Fall of the Legends members. Thing is though that it seems like they’re only willing to go after Fall of the Legends members who are flagged but rolling solo.

This might not be the case, but so far the only hit they’ve made on Fall of the Legends members was just a one on one battle. When they were asked if they wanted to flag up and battle it out in New Flag after the “Fight Club” event, they declined.

Yeah they were goaded into a fight and decided not to go in for it. We were all a bit bummed since we were getting ourselves pumped up for a fight.

Fall of the Legends members hanging around with nothing to do at that point just decided to have a pvp free for all. I equipped my Betsy rocket launcher and just blasted anything and everything. By the way the Betsy rocket launcher does little to no damage. It’s like bringing a water gun to a bazooka fight.

That, at least, was a lot of fun.

We’re hoping that things with The Browncoats settle down soon and that maybe a fun inter-clan rivalry will start up. Right now though it just looks like an effing comedy of errors all the way around.

I have been in a rofl stomp situation that was WAY worse than this and had to just let it go. After all, it’s just a game.

Until next time I’m going to be goofing off in the wastes.

Fallen Earth Going Free to Play

By Date

At this point it’s pretty damn official that Fallen Earth is going Free to Play (F2P). Question is what does this mean for those of us that are die hard players of the game? Right now the Fallen Earth F2P transition blog is all sunshine and rainbows.

I can’t blame them though they are trying to put a good face on something that is kind of scary to most gamers. I mean who really likes the idea of a game they love getting changed around.

Personally I’m not a huge fan of F2P games. Usually because the limitations on the free side of it pretty much leave you paying like crazy regardless.

At least they will be working with a tiered model. I like that idea. Right now folks that stay subbed up will get something special once the transition to F2P is complete. That and we’ll get some bennies like not having to pay the full price for the top subscription tier.

The top subscription tier will also have access to “auras” that you can share over a group. Probably xp gains or things like that. At least that’s what I’m thinking. If it becomes a damage or damage mitigation based aura I can see that being a serious tease for the PvP crowd. Then again I’m sure that the dev team will take that into consideration.

When it comes to the PvE crowd, I can see the F2P thing helping them actually. More bodies means more people to help complete team based content and more people to sell crap to. Really for PvE folks, it’s just a win situation. That is unless they totally botch up coming content and or the influx of peeps required to conquer the group content in Alpha County doesn’t happen. That’s being super pessimistic though and I’m pretty sure they’re not gonna let that happen.

Sadly though I am concerned for the RP community. Yeah I know shut it.

The RP community in Fallen Earth is unique and actually fun to sneak into. Thing is that an influx of rude newbs could make RP totally annoying if not completely impossible. See there is no RP server in Fallen Earth everyone is on a single server like it or not. On the flip side though there’s folks that don’t want to pay a monthly sub just to participate in RP so chances are the community might grow as folks who wouldn’t sub up say “it’s free, hells yeah.”

I’m also thinking that adding cosmetic items to the item shop will probably have some of the RP’rs drooling.

Personally I stick to my armor. I look at it this way… if I was out in the wastelands living hand to mouth, I wouldn’t be wandering around in a leather skirt. I’d be wearing armor head to toe and armed to the teeth. That’s just me though. I’d be like that in real life but don’t think I could get away with it.

OK back to the topic at hand. I will continue to play Fallen Earth. Right now I’m so invested in the game that really nothing else tickles my fancy.

I might check out Star Wars the Old Republic, especially if I manage to get a beta key. That’s not rolling out for a few more months though.

I do have some IRL crap to take care of… Time to move again and an extended trip. Sadly that’s gonna impact my game time and some of the in game plans I have at the moment. *sigh*

Looks like this is gonna be a busy summer full of playing the waiting game. Hell who knows it might be fun.

Morning In New Flag

Well since hitting 50 I’ve had a LOT going on. I’ve been working on getting AP to fill out my PvP/Crafter build. I’ve been working on chips to re-arrange my build. I’ve also been getting in some RP too.

Yep I’ve even had time to pick up my blight wolf mount. Thanks a bunch to La Grenouille and Kyoten for helping me get with enough Medium Rifle Ammunition to grind that rep. You guys are awesome.

Sadly I’m not getting as much RP-PvP in these days which is kinda sad. I really enjoyed that the most. I’ll probably just have to stay in New Flag and stir up some trouble, hehe.

I’m still pumping out some first person style write ups and posting them at the RP-Haven website. Not sure if I want to post those here yet or not. I might eventually.

I should probably also post up some little bio’s on the people involved in those scenarios as well. I work with some real characters lemme tell ya.

The one thing I like about Fallen Earth RP is that it’s pretty gritty. It’s not all heroes battling dragons and crap like that.

You’ve got everything from gun runners to cannibals. People get pretty creative. Yeah there’s some vampire types but you gotta pick your battles.

Not sure why I continued getting into the RP scene. Usually it’s not my thing you know. I mean it’s pretty tough to get into and get used to.

Somehow though I ended up with a character too and she does OK in the scene. I’ve also made some pretty tight friends through this adventure. That’s not something I expected.

It’s also pushed my writing, well creative writing I mean. That’s been awesome. Speaking of which I should probably get some of that done.

Until next time I’ll be getting lost in the wastelands.

Fallen Earth – Post Maintenece

Sunset in Terminal Woods

Well sadly I missed the podcast and the live chat on Tuesday where there were some pretty serious discussions about where Fallen Earth is gonna be going in the future.

I am kind of worried that they’re thinking about taking the game free to play. Personally the Free to Play model really bugs the crap out of me because it’s a time AND money suck as opposed to just the typical MMO time suck.

It’ll still take you just as long to get anywhere, but now you get to pay all kinds of little transactions to do it.

Also the extended maintenance that lasted through Wednesday was a little friggin annoying. I think they’ve got things straitened out for the most part though it looks like they’re still dealing with issues.

As it is myself and a few of my friends had to defragment the game before we could get it to realize we had an active net connection. How that works is beyond me.

Yeah I know I’m bitching, but right now there isn’t another game on the market I’d rather play and that’s the truth of the matter.

I love the fact that there is not “End Game” in Fallen Earth. I love the fact that I don’t feel like the game is an endless grind, that I can take my time and do things at my own pace. I like the fact that I feel like I can get into some PvP without having the best gear or spec even if I don’t win every match.

I really don’t want to play another game. I’ve found a great community in Fallen Earth and I actually enjoy logging in every day. I can’t say I’ve felt that way about a game in a long time.

Thing is though I know that changes are coming for Fallen Earth. They’re gonna need more subs, they’re gonna want to tweak the game to get and keep more people and make more money. MMO’s may look like a playground from our side, but they are a business after all.

How long would Disneyland stay open if they weren’t making a wad of cash right?

For now I’m going to roll with the changes. And yeah if they do go Free to Play that would mean a little less cash I’d have to pay each month. I’m just hoping that any changes they make in the business model won’t break the game.

You know as in buying pets that last for a set amount of time, renting weapons, having to pay real cash to re-spec, crap like that. Now if they set up a store for vanity items like new tattoos, fancy jackets, crap like that, I’m pretty sure they’ll still make some cash AND they won’t fubar the game mechanics to the point where no one wants to play.

I mean look at Second Life. How much are people willing to pay to have an avatar that looks unique? From what I’ve seen, quite a bit. Granted they might not always come back but hey, you still got their cash while they were there.

It’s better than ruining your base game for the folks you know are going to keep playing right? Well let’s hope they see it that way.
